31 Tips to Reduce Waste
why 31 tips?
31 is a big number but there was a reason I put this list together. Have you heard of Plastic Free July? It is a yearly campaign that, funnily enough, occurs in July and is growing from strength to strength as more people sign up to take the challenge. It started in 2011 in Australia and in 2019 a whopping estimated 250 million people took part from 177 countries! 9 out of 10 people who took part have also made changes that have now become a habit which is incredible.
Before that scares you into thinking you will fail on day one, it doesn’t mean you are expected to live plastic free for the whole of July. It is more the idea of becoming aware about your waste and committing to make even just one change in the month. The hope is that the one change will turn into a habit and lead to two or three more changes, as well as helping you kick start your awareness to the waste generated every day by items we may not even realise. When you sign up, they share tips via email as well to keep you motivated and give you some ideas.
In honour of Plastic Free July, I have been sharing 31 tips on my instagram page (sustainable.ideas) from the well known to the not so known, in an attempt to show how even the smallest change you make will have a positive impact. Basically, a tip for every day for the month of July.
