In the UK, the Christmas Cracker has been a staple decoration on our tables since the 1860s. Created by a British sweet maker who loved that the French bonbons at the time were wrapped up beautifully. After a few tries, he discovered selling his sweets with toys and a riddle worked…but only when a bang was added!
It's estimated that anywhere between 50-150 million are pulled in the UK in one festive season! So if we pull an average of two per person. 100 million crackers laid end to end, would stretch from the UK to the North Pole there and back - 4 times! (Bea estimated this based on a standard 34cm cracker length)
These crackers are pet-friendly as they each come with an ecosnap®, Bea’s latest invention. Many pet owners find that their dogs in particular are distressed by the loud bangs, so she developed this new silent snap. For those who love a cracker with a bang, they also work with standard snaps that are 28cm (11inches) long.

On a personal note: I found these crackers online when researching into the waste created at Christmas and loved this simple but clever and stylish alternative. You can cater to your party by filling the crackers with specific prizes for them or chocolate. You can even write your own jokes. Plus they look good on a plate – far better than the homemade ones I tried to make last year!
